Authorities have identified the two individuals found dead in Chetek on Sunday afternoon as Michael and Michelle Turnipseed. The Barron County Sheriff’s Department responded to a 911 call shortly before 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, where the caller reported that a woman was lying outside a home, covered in blood, and appeared unresponsive.
Upon arrival, law enforcement officials confirmed that the woman, later identified as Michelle Turnipseed, was dead outside the residence, while Michael Turnipseed was found deceased inside the home. Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald provided an update on the case Monday, revealing that the Turnipseeds had been separated, with Michelle having filed for divorce just a few months prior, in September.
This was filed shortly after Michael faced charges related to domestic violence, including intentionally pointing a firearm at a person and disorderly conduct with a domestic abuse modifier. The sheriff mentioned that Michael had arrived at the home on Sunday with Michelle’s consent, and an altercation ensued between the two.
Michelle Turnipseed, a highly respected Registered Dental Hygienist, had worked at River Birch Dental in Chetek at the time of her death. She had an extensive career in dental hygiene, with previous positions at River Place Dental and Valley Dental in Amery and other locations. Michelle was originally from Chetek, Wisconsin and had attended Fort Atkinson High School before pursuing a career in dental hygiene.
The deaths of Michael and Michelle Turnipseed have left the Chetek community in mourning. As authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding their deaths, the case highlights the need for continued efforts to combat domestic violence and provide resources for those at risk.
Investigators believe that the cause of death was stab wounds, though further investigation is underway. The case has raised concerns about the risks of domestic violence, with Sheriff Fitzgerald urging people who may be experiencing abuse to reach out to victim support organizations.
