The community of Belmont, Massachusetts, and the world of education and sports are mourning the tragic loss of a dedicated teacher and coach. Broderick, a longtime member of the Saugus High School faculty and football program, passed away unexpectedly, leaving behind a legacy that spans decades of service to young athletes and students.
Broderick’s career in coaching began long before his return to Curry College in 2021. He had an extensive coaching background, with notable positions such as Assistant Coach at Arlington High School, Defensive Coordinator at Saugus High School, and the Head Coach of the basketball team at Arlington High School from 1997 to 2008. Broderick was instrumental in guiding athletes to success, both on the field and in the classroom.
His time as the Head Coach at Saugus High School, a role he held since 2005, was marked by numerous achievements. He was named Coach of the Year in 2007 by the Northeastern Conference and the Lynn Daily Item and served as Head Coach for the Agganis All-Star Game in 2008. Broderick’s commitment to his students extended beyond sports—he was also a Co-Director of the Boston Baseball Camps, helping to provide opportunities for disadvantaged children.
Broderick’s educational journey began with a B.A. in Sociology from Suffolk University in 1992, followed by a Master’s degree in Education from UMass-Boston in 2000. His contributions to the community, both as a coach and educator, will be forever remembered. His passing is a significant loss to all who had the privilege of working with him and learning from him.
