The Missoula community is mourning the loss of Brian Busby, a dedicated research biologist at Raptor View Research Institute, who tragically passed away on December 23, 2024. Brian’s commitment to the study and preservation of raptors, particularly Ospreys, made him an integral part of the institute and a beloved figure within the community.
After earning his undergraduate degree in Conservation Biology from the State University of New York in Syracuse, Brian joined Raptor View Research Institute in 2015, where his passion for raptor conservation began to flourish. His dedication to the field led him to pursue further education in Raptor Biology at Boise State University, where he conducted significant research on Barn Owls.
Upon returning to Missoula in 2024, Brian brought with him a wealth of knowledge and an infectious enthusiasm that inspired colleagues, students, and the local community. His ability to effortlessly share his expertise and passion for raptors propelled education efforts at the institute and beyond. Brian’s work not only contributed to the scientific understanding of Ospreys but also fostered a greater appreciation for these magnificent birds among the public.
